Ling,

1. Well, er, um, I had another cookbook from Marcella--"More Classic Italian Cooking"--and somehow I got the two confused. But all is well in the kitchen; I have both now.

2. That's wonderful!

3. Vovó had 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, if my math (and memory) serve me.

4. I hear you.

Hi Beth,

Have to agree, I could probably devour 4 cups all by myself. Forget the pasta, a big spoon will do just fine!

The yield is four cups? But what will my guests eat?

Truly, it sounds fabulous. I do love some good time at the stove, stirring, though I'm usually making bechamel or pudding.

Kelley, I used reduced tomato purée because we had it in the freezer from the summer. Marcella Hazen calls for canned tomatoes. I personally don't use tomato paste because you end up reducing an already reduced product and i don't like the flavor. A tablespoon or two of paste is fine to add, but not as the only tomato product. Next time try adding the chicken liver at the start of cooking.

David,

1. I'm expecting you to provide, in the fullness of time, a proper explanation of why you, only until now, did not own a copy of Marcella Hazan's book.

2. My Gran was a braiser and soup-maker. Mum says that some of my recipes are more similar to Gran's than hers.

3. She was Gran to 16 of us (there are MANY similarities between large Chinese and Portuguese families), but somehow, somehow - she always made something extra special for me when she cooked dinner for everyone!!

4. Yeah I miss my Gran, too.

I made with just paste and didnt like the color...too blah. Next time I adding the tomatoes.
