The Revolver Cocktail

A coupe glass filled with a revolver cocktail, garnished with orange peel.
If you've never had a Revolver cocktail, have we got a treat for you. Along the lines of a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned, the addition of coffee liqueur adds just a little oomph.

  • 2 ounces dry, spicy bourbon (any bourbon that's heavy on the rye will also tend to be dry and spicy, such as Bulleit)
  • 1/2 ounce coffee liqueur
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 strip orange peel approximately 1 inch (2 1/2 centimeters) by 2 1/2 inches (6 centimeters)

  • Combine the bourbon, coffee liqueur, and orange bitters in a mixing glass. Add ice cubes and stir until chilled.
  • Strain the cocktail into a chilled glass. If desired, flame the orange peel. (For more on flaming an orange peel, check out How To Flame An Orange Peel Note below.) Drop the orange peel into the drink, if desired. Serve immediately.
