Sisters Melissa and Emily Elsen are the owners of Four & Twenty Blackbirds, a pie shop in Brooklyn, NY and the authors of a cookbook by the same name, The Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Book. Raised in the rural farm town of Hecla, SD, they grew up working in their parents’ restaurant and learning how to roll dough at the elbow of their grandma Liz. After pursuing different careers in their early adulthood, Melissa and Emily started custom-baking pies together in their Brooklyn apartment before opening the pie shop, which has been featured in The New York Times and Martha Stewart Living, among others. @birdsblack
