The One and I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, so we got up early to make a video. Why we didn’t think to do this last week, when we weren’t rushed, I’ll never know. But at least you can see the snowfall through the windows on this white Christmas.
And if you’re curious as to the recipes we’re making for our Christmas dinner, here they are:
Gougeres
Beef Wellington
Braised Carrots with Orange and Rosemary
Old-Fashioned Potato Gratin
Hershey Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting (The frosting is from Epicurious, and we have adapted a million ways from Sunday. So I can’t give you an exact recipe.)
Now, we’re very curious as to what you making today. So comment below and send any pictures here. We’ll post them with your comments.
Loved the video! I especially enjoyed The One’s description of oyster stew. I’m a Jewish Jersey girl married to a Nebraska farm boy, and when I first went to meet his family (having never had Christmas before), all I heard about was my soon-to-be mother-in-law’s famous oyster stew. I couldn’t wait — I had never had oyster stew, and had visions of a creamy, buttery bisque-like affair. Imagine my surprise when my m-i-l dumped a tin of oysters in a saucepan, poured in a cup of milk, and called it a day! No seasoning at all, of course (seasoning apparently being suspect out there). I choked it down, and have never tried it since. The only upside is that my husband has always thought that I’m a great cook, because I had such an easy act to follow!
In any event, thanks for sharing the video, and best wishes for a happy and healthy — and delicious — new year!
Westsloper, hysterical! Sounds just like The One’s mom’s stew. If you muster up the courage, try the oyster stew on the site. It really is lovely. Still simple, but delicious.
Westsloper, OMG! I can’t believe you suffered the same fate I did my entire childhood. LOL! But the recipe we offer on the site will give you that creamy, buttery taste you’re looking for. I love it!
Merry Christmas to you both! Loved your video!
And Merry Christmas to you too, Sheila.
Abbott & Costello have got nothing on you two. Great job. PLEASE more videos!
Ha! Thank you, Dottie!!
Dottie, Thank you! And we do hope to have more videos.
