Casseroles, strata, hot dishes, gratins–one-pot dishes are not only delicious, but they’re also easy and convenient. Here’s out entire list.

Think about it, in one dish you can have your proteins, carbs, and vegetables. All you have to do is toss it in the oven and wait. (Well, that’s the hard part.)

They’re ideal because they can work for weeknights and weekends. For family and company. A frozen casserole can make it to the table in under an hour. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

There are a lot of them. First, you can never go wrong with Ina Garten or her Baked Pasta with Tomatoes & Eggplant. Simple, easy, and relatively healthy. We have the classic, too, like Green Bean Casserole, Tuna Noodle Casserole made in an Instant Pot, and a good old tetrazzini.


If breakfast is more your thing, don’t miss our Asparagus, Egg, and Cheese Strata. I’ve made it a gazillion times, and everyone loved it. The best part: You make it a day ahead. There’s also our Sausage Egg Casserole. Another overnight dish that makes breakfast a breeze. And my Croque Monsieur Casserole, made with croissant, ham, cheese, and a luscious béchamel sauce, is comfort food talent to the next level. It does double duty as lunch and breakfast.

Portugal isn’t known for casseroles, per see. At least not in the way Americans think of them. But there is one dish, and it’s a favorite in our house: Bacalhau à Gômes de Sá. Layers of salt cod, potatoes, caramelized onions, and olives are baked until bubbly brown. Fantastico!
