When you take this understanding into consideration, you’re privy to an awareness that may help you demonstrate your love in a way that’s certain to mean the world to your person. Because some things about who we are and what we want may be written in the stars.

Aquarius (January 20 to February 18)

A 16-layer red-eye devil's food cake--alternating layer of chocolate cake and chocolate frosting
: Marcus Nilsson

Aquarians love the new and unexpected. So make your chocolate dessert extravagant! A multi-layer devil’s food cake will make this sign continue to marvel and guess at the depth and strength of your love, like a mystery that they can’t solve. And since they’re passionate perceivers who constantly question their reality, they’ll be so excited by this obvious outpouring of emotion that they’ll rush to lovingly return the favor.

Pisces (February 19 to March 20)

Two bitter chocolate and buttermilk ice cream cones in glasses.
: Jenny Zarins

Reminding Pisces of a time when they felt nurtured is deeply loving to them. They’re generous with their affection, but it all starts with feelings of security and safety. So make some homemade ice cream and include an array of toppings. Don’t forget the sprinkles or chopped chocolate! When you cater to their inner kid, you’ll slide right into their watery heart.

Aries (March 21 to April 19)

Chocolate Whipped Cream
: Ladurée

Aries are hot-blooded and want to know that you feel as deeply about them as they feel about you. Given that food is their second most favorite way to demonstrate the depths of their emotion, keep it sensual and simple. Think chocolate eclairs. The creamy goodness will take you straight to their heart. Or chocolate whipped cream will also do quite nicely.

Taurus (April 20 to May 20)

Chocolate Nougat
: Ben Fink

Taurus is ruled by Venus, goddess of beauty, which means presentation is everything. Make it beautiful! A Taurus also needs to be given choices. Satisfy their desire for artful decadence and their need to decide with assorted chocolates. Think of an array of fillings that will surprise and delight their senses. Giving them choice says you understand their need to love you and reassures them you don’t have to like everything. They’ll think they’re choosing you, when actually you had them at chocolate.

Gemini (May 21 to June 20)

An espresso cheesecake on a silver platter with two slices cut from it.
: Sara Remington

Geminis love deeply but are always subject to the fearful side of their personality. As a result, Geminis tend to not know what they want and are incredibly indecisive. Seriously, they can’t decide! You simply need to take them by the hand and give them no choice. Make your loved one a rich, creamy, decadent espresso cheesecake and you’ll leave no doubt of your arduous affections.

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)

Two individual servings of chocolate mouse in glass tumblers served on a small plate with a silver spoon resting beside.
: David Loftus

Cancers desperately want to drown in the emotions of love and passion. That said, they’re deeply afraid of rejection, so any encouragement whatsoever from you will be an aphrodisiac. Giving your Cancer, who understands the sensuality of food, the opportunity to share a meal with you encourages him or her to experience all their emotions. Savory as well as sweet. Make some mole enchiladas and it’s done and over. Or if you prefer something sweet, it needs to be creamy, fleeting, and so light they’ll question if something was even there. Homemade chocolate mousse is certain to do the trick.

Leo (July 23 to August 22)

A square piece of homemade snickers bar on a piece of parchment.
: Ben Fink

Leos are bold personalities who want all the bells and whistles, so make what you bake exciting! And when you present it, fireworks and canons aren’t too much for this outgoing sign. Big gestures like homemade Snickers bars, decadent cakes, or anything with a caramel drizzle will reassure them of your love. Remember, deep down they’re actually sensitive and fragile souls.

Virgo (August 23 to September 22)

One whole wheat chocolate chip cookie pulled in two
: Alpha Smoot

This loyal soul is simple, easy to please, and hates to feel like a burden to their loved ones. Chocolate chip cookies are the perfect sweet that will speak to their emotional sensitivity and say you want to do the little things with them. That you want to share their everyday experiences. It’s a statement that your person will appreciate. Don’t forget that with Virgos, it’s always about the details, so figure out their preferences—with or without nuts, chewy or cakey—but don’t overdo it. Remember, Virgos don’t want you to make a fuss.

Libra (September 23 to October 22)

A slab of Katharine Hepburn brownies cut into 9 pieces, on parchment paper, with a knife nearby
: Todd Coleman

Libras seek balance and equilibrium. They want your passion and ardor but also your peace. So make certain your dessert speaks to them in mind, body, and soul. Homemade brownie recipes are simple yet always satisfying and mean that you love them in more ways than you can say. They get that. They’re incredibly sentimental and will see and appreciate you as a deep and thoughtful partner. Don’t forget to cut the brownies evenly!

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)

Two frozen chocolate-covered bananas on sticks with a dish of crushed peanuts and extra popsicles sticks beside them.
: Matt Armendariz

Scorpio wants to confront their own primal nature and are indulgent eaters at the table and voracious in the bedroom. Anything dipped in chocolate will win you this sensual sign. Whatever you can find will do nicely, whether frozen chocolate-covered bananas or bacon or chocolate-dipped candied citrus peel. Add a hint of heat from some dried chile pepper and they’ll sweep you off your feet.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)

A heart-shaped cake topped with berries for the writing 'what dessert to bake your valentine by zodiac'.
: Nelly

Nothing engages Sagittarius more than when they can let their hair down and have fun. If they get to have an adventure, even better! A dark chocolate waffle with heaps of toppings can accomplish both tasks. Make your waffle big with lots of nooks and crannies for the homemade hot fudge sauce to drip into and, if you have a heart-shaped waffle maker collecting dust, this is the time to drag it out. Want a splash of red? Top with some candied cranberries.) Then dare them to finish the whole thing. Remember, Sagittarians are intense and crave your full attention, so make eye contact the entire time your sweetie is rising to your challenge.

Capricorn (December 22 to January 19)

A fork cutting into a molten chocolate cake on a white plate with a scoop of ice cream.
: Quentin Bacon

This elegant and sensual soul wants expensive indulgence. Pull out your ramekins so they can hear those three special words from your lips: molten…lava…cake! The richness, the soft spongy cake, the smooth creamy chocolate center will flow straight to the luxury-loving heart of your Capricorn. This dessert will also reassure them that you can perceive what’s beneath their surface and understand their emotional depths.

LC Note: There are other contributing factors to your loved one’s personality—and their chocolate preferences—that come from the influence of their rising or moon sign. We’re sharing suggestions based on their sun sign that won’t take into consideration any other mitigating influences.
